And all of a sudden it’s halfway gone?!? How did that happen? Since I don’t have the answers to any of life’s mysteries, I’ll tell you what I’ve been up to instead. Finally got to the Rockland Art Walk and saw a great group show at Caldbeck Gallery on Elm St.
Then we wandered over to Dowling Walsh Gallery on Main St., where Cig Harvey had an opening of new work:
Harvey had a huge table in one of the spaces laid out for a huge feast…
I snapped a couple of photos with my phone of her work on the walls, which was phenomenal, but since it was early evening reflections played havoc with them… sorry you’ll have to go to her website or the gallery website to have a better look.
Then it was getting ready to go to NYC and finishing up two paintings for my October show in Portland. Since we were only going to NY for four days, I figured I could always finish those paintings when I returned.
“HAH,” said the Universe. “You look like you need some drama in your life!”
And so it came to pass that I severely sprained my left ankle getting out of a tall SUV thing on our first night in town.
But we did get to do two things other than look for rental wheelchairs and getting to an urgent care for x-rays; we had dinner with my niece Hannah (doing an internship at the UN this semester) and on our final night we saw the premiere of a piano trio, “Light Bending the World” by composer Niles Luther for the Montage Music Society and I was able to invite Hannah to this exclusive event at the Miles McEnery Gallery in Chelsea. The piece was premiered at the gallery where April Gornik’s recent paintings are exhibited. Laurie Carney played violin and (Montage Artistic Director) Debra Ayers played piano with the composer playing cello. It was an amazing piece that I look forward to getting a copy of when it’s released next year!

When we returned, I had to see an orthopedic doc for a correctly sized boot and also an urgent care clinic for some antibiotics for the infection in my foot. But they seem to be working and most of the pain seems to be associated with those places, so hopefully when the drugs kick in, I’ll be in better shape to get up to the studio to complete work for this show, that got a nice little write up in The Coastal Forecaster.
Sorry about your foot. Bummer! Heal Heal Heal!!!
I do need to make a Huge correction... the music was inspired by Gornick's painting of the same name... She really is a phenomenal landscape painter...
