Back from the Bahamas

It's cold in Maine, but we have warm memories...

Ever since we moved back to Maine in 2011, we’ve talked about going to the Bahamas in the winter. Neither the hubby nor myself had been there and were curious. Since it was his 75th birthday at the end of January, we figured why not now! So we booked an inexpensive (sorta) hotel on Paradise Island outside of Nassau city center. We now know we don’t fancy Tourista Island and next time, want to stay at the British Colonial Hotel which is too charming as you can see by the photos below

We only had four days there so not a lot of time, but we did make it over to the National Art Gallery, which will be next week’s post. But here is the Queen of Junkanoo sculpture by Nick Austin (2004) that is outside the museum.

That night was the Junior Junkanoo parade but it started too late for us and we wanted to see the museum and some other sights that day. The following day we found this remnant of the parade.

Here are some street scenes from our trip that was really a great time and would love to spend more time there in the coming years. The people are gracious and wonderful and even though it was chilly for the locals, it felt almost like summer to us! Here’s some scenes from the trip.

John made it all the way up the top (64 steps) while my bad hip and I stayed down below and found this:

We went out to the Sapondilla Estate and Restaurant for John’s birthday dinner, a day late, but we blame our airline delay going there.
